On 1st February 2003 Reefer 90s Australia was one year old.

Peter Berrill looks back at the first year’s trading.

At the outset we targeted meat exporters, some dairy and perhaps the odd dry container of food stuff. Our list of target accounts filled two pages of A4 !. To date our meat exports have been minimal, and all for existing UK based Clients, our dry boxes non existent, but our shipments of dairy products have exceeded all expectations. So much for the plans of mice and Men.

A year ago we thought about the potential for refrigerated groupage exports. Just like in the UK in 1990 these services were simply non existent and perhaps year two or three would see us commencing our research. Well it took just a couple of months to consolidate our first load and during the year we have established several services to several Pacific destinations and South East Asia. This is definitely an aspect of our business we wish to develop and we welcome any enquiries.

We assumed that by establishing an Australian office we would be able to assist our existing UK customers to source product from Australian suppliers. Also of course we would be much better placed in these instances to take care of their shipping. This assumption has indeed proved correct and this kind of partnership has produced mutual benefits. Unconsidered at the time, however, was the increased business we secured from new UK customers shipping to Australia who could make use of our local representation and the services we could offer to their Consignees.

The year has flown by. We set a budget (like all good Firms) at the beginning and surprisingly (?) in monetary terms anyway our actual activity is within a few percent !. The make up of it though as you may appreciate from this first years report is very different to how we envisaged. So we look forward to our second year. Our target accounts still fill two pages but the unforeseen projects which have come our way during our first year are currently taking priority.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Customers and supplier's and the staff at Reefer 90s in the UK for all their support during this past year. We certainly look forward to the challenges ahead and to furthering our new business relationships during the next twelve months.
