Fire on US Bound Vessel

Posted on: May 3rd, 2013

A fire broke out on one of the Atlantic Cartier’s car decks at approximately 1900 hrs on 1st May. The vessel is now at berth in the Port of Hamburg. The Hamburg Fire Department were alerted and responded immediately on-board and on the water with fire boats to provide hull cooling. No injuries, no oil spills and no pollution occurred as a result of the incident. The fire on board was extinguished and surveyors are evaluating the damage.

The length of time required for repairs is not yet known, but ACL have already started the process of securing a chartered vessel to cover Atlantic Cartier’s position in their schedule. All containers original scheduled for loading on the Atlantic Cartier from Liverpool on the 07-5 have now been transfered for loading on the Atlantic Compass ETD LIV 11-5 ETA NYK 21-5.
